At Mill River Union High School we understand the importance of having strong and active school-community partnership. That is why we are constantly seeking opportunities that allow our students and staff the chance to give back.
Check out the following school-community events taking place:
Growth through Giving
As we prepare for the second Senior volunteer session….Growth through Giving, in our Communities elementary schools, Seniors, thus far, have served as math and reading helpers/tutors. They are reading to the elementary students and the elementary students are practicing their reading skills by reading to our Seniors. They are assisting in a number of “specials”, like physical education, art, music, library, etc. They have helped some of the elementary schools with cleaning and prepping their gardens for the Winter.
Holiday Food Basket Project
The MRUHS National Honor Society will be collecting non-perishable food items for their annual Holiday Food Basket Project.
The Mill River Union High School Interact Club provides students with many opportunities for service learning in our community and beyond. This is a type of experiential education where students are able to develop civic engagement skills. Students have the opportunity to work with diverse members of our community and to contribute to building a positive community. Students are able to develop self-confidence and a commitment to public service through the variety of community service projects that the MRU Interact Club sponsors. So far this school year Interact members have helped at the annual Rotary Lobster Fest, picked apples and made apple crisp for all MRU students, gone Trick-or-Treating for canned goods donated to the Rutland Community Cupboard, and collected money for UNICEF. Last year our annual ornament fundraiser raised $500 for Rutland Welcomes to support Syrian refugees coming to Rutland. Our annual Cabot Cheese fundraiser is just getting underway.
